Macros & Scenery at the Slough

Plaque at Baskett Slough National Wildlife Refuge in memory of former refuge manger Rich Guadagno, who died abort hijacked Flight 93 that crashed in Pennsylvania on September 11, 2001
In Memory
There is a plaque on the viewing platform commemorating Rich Guadagno, a former manager of the refuge that was on board the plane that crashed in Pennsylvania on September 11, 2001. I never knew Rich, but I know well the refuge that he worked hard to preserve. I started to take a picture of just the plaque as a personal snapshot, but I thought a more appropriate tribute to Rich's life (and not just his passing) was to pull back and include a view down Baskett Butte and onto the ponds of the refuge that play host to large numbers of wintering waterfowl.

Forest In Miniature
Moss grows thickly on the trees during the wet winters of the Pacific Northwest. I like the way the macro view of the moss looks like a miniature forest within the larger forest.

A Rolling Stone
They say a rolling stone gathers no moss, but I can tell you that fallen trees certainly do. At least those that fall in the woods at the Slough, this picture was taken on the Baskett Butte Trail in the middle of winter on a drizzly day.
