I saw Townsend’s chipmunks every day on my trip to Mount Rainier but rarely had the chance to photograph them. Early on the Sourdough Ridge Trail provided my best views of these little creatures and emphasized a theme I’d see in all of the mammals on the mountain: eat while you can. Winter comes early at the higher elevations, so animals from little chipmunks to big bears were quite active and eating as much as they could.
